Warisan President, Datuk Seri Haji Mohd. Shafie Apdal has revealed that former Warisan Information Chief, Datuk Dr. Yusof Yacob used money to entice other elected representatives to jump alongside him.
“We have been informed by a few Warisan State Assemblymen that he (Dr. Yusof) has also influenced others to quit the party and offered huge sums of money to join Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).”
“Warisan will not compromise and we reject the culture of party hopping by way of offering money and positions, be it at the state or national level,” said Shafie in a statement reeased today.
On Friday, Dr. Yusof announced that he has quit the party due to the need to continue to serving his constituents.
Shafie however, disagreed and said that ample room and opportunities were given to him to serve the people.
“Yusof should not use the excuse of serving the people to justify party-hopping.”
“This is because he was given an important role in the State Cabinet as Minister of Education and Innovation.”
“Furthermore, his position as Information Chief allows him to participate in important discussions and meetings, such as the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council and the Conference of Rulers’ Pre-Council Meeting with Chief Ministers across various states.
In line with that, Shafie urged party members, supporters and leaders to remain calm at all Divisions.
He also urged the party to remain loyal to the core struggle of Warisan which includes fighting kleptocracy, the return of Sabahans’ rights and equality across race, creed or religion.
