The top leadership of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) is split in two over talks of a cooperation with Warisan.

According to a top source who spoke to inisabahbah.com on condition of anonymity, the party who once ruled Sabah welcomes the suggestion of a PBS and Warisan cooperation.

“There are party leaders and the grassroots who miss the glorious days of Sabah being ruled by Sabah-based parties.”

“We support the return of Sabah’s governance to Sabah-based parties.”

“So, there are certainly leaders who are open to the idea of a PBS-Warisan cooperation, including President.”

Maximus had on 15 August said that PBS was ready to work with any party, including Warisan, if it benefitted Sabahans.

The source added, the leaders supporting the cooperation do not like being taunted as lapdogs for West Malaysian politicians.

“I mean, what is so bad about Sabahans governing Sabah? We become like Sarawak. Dignified.”

“We don’t like being ‘olok’ (taunted) as ‘barua Malaya’ (Malaya’s lapdog) either,” the source added.

Nevertheless, according to the source, there are certain leaders bent on objecting such cooperation.

“But there are those also against such ideas (PBS-Warisan cooperation) due to personal interests.”

When probed further on the reason to object a PBS-Warisan cooperation, the source revealed that this is because certain leaders are still loyal to ‘a former Chief Minister’.

“Because certain leaders are still very loyal to a former Chief Minister.”

“You know-lah which leader always issues statements objecting. You know-lah which former CM is most worried of Shafie.”

On Sunday, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai who is PBS’s Information Chief said PBS will remain loyal to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), a coaliton led by consisting Peninsular-based Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

Joniston’s response came after Warisan President, Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd. Shafie Apdal’s repeated his party’s interest to work with PBS on Saturday.
