Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament (MP), Chan Foong Hin failed to make it to the top 15 in the recent Sabah DAP Polls.
The State Committee Election which was held in Sandakan on Sunday saw Luyang State Assemblyman, Phoong Jin Zhe named as the new Secretary, while Tanjong Papat State Assemblyman, Frankie Poon was named as State Chairman.
Foong Hin’s failure to make the cut would mean that he is out of the DAP Sabah State Committee for this term, unless appointed.
A well placed source in the party said, Foong Hin’s candidacy in the coming General Election could be hanging by the thread, as he will now enjoy lesser influence within the State Committee.
The source added, according past practises, candidates vying for a seat in the General Election will have to be endorsed by the Chairman and Secretary, a post Foong Hin previously held.
Another senior leader who spoke on condition of anonymity said, despite the loss, Chan is likely to be appointed to the State Committee, as certain national leaders from Peninsular Malaysia will be lobbying for his inclusion.
“Our KL leaders will lobby for Chan. So he may be appointed to the Committee.”
