DAP’s Chan Foong Hin has admitted to receiving RM4.3 million from Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s government, but claims it is for the benefit of the people.

The funds were received after the inking of the controversial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and UMNO’s Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

In a Facebook interview broadcasted live in mandarin on Monday night, an audience had asked if the incumbent Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament (MP) had received any money after signing the MOU.

“Not only RM3 million. In fact it was RM4.3 million,” said Foong Hin while giggling.

However, he defended the move and felt that there was nothing wrong, claiming that it was not as much as what former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak dispensed to Opposition constituencies during an election year.

“If I’m not mistaken, during Najib’s era, during the last year in office, knowing well it is election year, Najib would dispense even more.”

“About RM5 million to RM6 million if I’m not mistaken.”

The DAP leader who is seeking reelection in the 15th General Election (GE15) also claimed that many constituents in KK had benefitted from the RM4.3 million he received from the MOU.

“Actually many people in KK have received my help because of the MOU,” he said.

The excerpt of the interview can be watched below.

The MOU between PH and UMNO’s Ismail Sabri has been a point of contention among the Opposition, mainly between PH and Warisan.

Warisan had in 2021 exposed that PH’s MPs received a whopping RM350 million after inking with MOU with Ismail Sabri.

Apart from receiving the money, PH had also refused to object Ismail’s 2022 Budget, despite protests by many Sabahans who felt that the allocation to Sabah was grossly unfair.

PH’s refusal to object Ismail’s 2022 Budget subsequently led to the passing of the budget.

For the record, the MOU was first proposed by PH to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu)’s Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in 2021.

Upon losing power, the same MOU was then proposed the UMNO’s Ismail Sabri who became Prime Minister in July 2021.

The UMNO-PH MOU was inked in September 2021.

Two months later, in November 2021, PH shocked the country when it was revealed that a Sabah-level MOU was also proposed to Bersatu’s Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Two PKR sources who spoke to inisabahbah.com back then revealed that Sabah DAP was behind the push for the PH-Bersatu MOU in Sabah.

They revealed that the proposal for the Bersatu-PH MOU was drafted by “a DAP YB”.

They said that Sabah DAP was acting upon the directive of DAP leaders in Peninsular Malaysia.
